How to survive the dewey update

When the question of survival comes, people get confused! Who will survive, why it came down to survival and lots of questions start brewing inside the tea pot! As a result the web geeks start serving it hot! However, "dewey update" had come to sip quite a few months back. But it has swept the sleep of the search engine optimizers and webmasters very recently. They even dream of falling search engine ranks page (SERPs) for effect of dewey update.

What’s this ghost all about? Why is it creating headaches to search engine optimizers? And how websites can glide away of its deep impact? Let’s have a little discussion. The discussion will be in three parts- what started to come in search results; the present situation for dewey update; and at last the solutions for Google dewey update.

What was the situation after the dewey update:
  • The consistent top 10 ranked sites were falling to second page in the search results or even going beyond to unexpected pages.
  • Google’s regional data centers were showing different search results with same keyword search.
  • Book results were coming on the first page and sometimes those are affecting the results for last three spots.
  • Old dated material or even spam sites were sometimes coming to top results. Even sub-domains were reappearing to search results.
  • In the product and service queries branded products, shopping sites were given importance heavily. Even new ecommerce sites were shown.
  • Sometimes Google products were given maximized importance in the search queries. Though there were better sties with better products.
  • Back link counts were changing in whimsical way. And that hugely affecting the search results. The webmasters were unable to tract the process.
Seeing these effects for dewey update no webmaster or the search engine optimizer can remain mum! They were totally confused to understand the search logic and the then search engine algorithm change or update. They felt little relief about sure algorithm modulation when Matt Cutts posted a thread on WebmasterWorld forum asking if there is any difference in the search result of regional data centers. And Matt also wanted to get reply with the word ‘dewey’ in the subject line. The confusion was again fueled by Aaron Wall on February 2009 in seobook.com. He commented about Google’s increased interest on branded product and service and he said it has relation with dewey update.

However, now the things have little changed and the things are little different. Let’s see what has changed at present though dewey update is effective:
  • Now books results are not affecting the top ten results, instead it is coming just after the regular results.
  • The old and spamming sites are not given priority and sub-domains are not coming strangely.
  • Back link counts are not decreasing without proper reasons. And link exchange process is properly valued.
But the question is about the remaining things or points that did not changed after dewey update! What about those points? There are some probable reasons of this type of remaining effect after dewey update. We may have some light on this too.
  • Google is bothering the cliché search engine optimization after dewey update. For example, improper content development for search engines crawlers only. This is having great effect on some top ranking sites.
  • Google has already announced to implement Google Caffeine and after it is effective there will not be any mismatch of different regional search for same keywords. And new content will always come up.
  • Google is tracking the useless link exchanging policy. The improper link exchange policy for getting more back links is strictly tracked and relevant back links are given priority.
  • Advertisements are Google’s bread and butter. It will give importance to branded products that put advertisement through Google Adword and other advertisement policies. Whatever is the dewey update effect or anything, those will not affect Google’s advertisement policy.
  • Last but not the least; Google has to prioritize little to its home products for its own sake. It is no way any mischievous act and bad effect of dewey update.
So with this discussion should we come to the conclusion that webmasters and search engine optimizers are going to lose importance for dewey update? And Google has totally become somehow Yahoo which is blamed as partial to money making! No, this is not the case, rather we can say the tussle between the optimizers and search engine experts have become tough after dewey update. Google simply is trying to say, the search is going day by day more human-centric. It is trying to prove, be positive to optimize positively.

What is going to be the probable solution to meet the demand of Google search engine? How can we see our optimized websites showing good results? I can tell you some true facts coming out of different webmaster’s brains after dewey update.
  • Try to showcase web content that is human readable and is getting regular updates. Stop unnecessary use of keywords. Say no to keyword stuffing.
  • The site content should be compelling to let readers come back to truly being informed and served with the juicy and good content.
  • Adapt the proper link exchange policy and stop link trading and exchanging with low quality or the irrelevant links.
  • Develop webpage layout structure that is appealing to human eyes yet works according to search engine policy.
  • Spread network positively with social networking and do care for other search engine results. This is also valued by Google nowadays.
So do not worry about what is happening inside Google’s office or how algorithm is updated or changed. The positive optimization was effective and will remain effective in future.
